Fixing a Trip Hazard — and Preventing Future Damage

This client contacted us about a walkway deck where water was consistently pooling due to a poorly placed downspout. The moisture caused wood damage over time, and the area became a real trip hazard.

We removed the failing section, addressed the water diversion issue, and rebuilt the decking with proper spacing, support, and slope to guide water away safely. The result is a safer, longer-lasting entry area that protects both the structure and the people using it.

Scope of Work

Identified and redirected downspout to improve drainage

Removed damaged decking boards and supporting joists

Corrected sloping to encourage proper water flow

Rebuilt the deck section with pressure-treated lumber

Installed new fasteners and trim for clean finish

Inspected adjacent framing and reinforced weak points

Cleaned up site and ensured no standing water post-completion

Estimated Labor Range

This was a mid-sized outdoor repair project focused on function and durability.

Estimated Labor Cost: $10,000 – $20,000
